Beyond Gravity, a leading supplier to the space industry, provided several key products for EarthCARE mission from the European Space Agency. The Beyond Gravity unit in Finland designed and manufactured control and measurement electronics for the spacecraft

Beyond Gravity team based in Tampere, Finland, delivered mission critical space electronics for the EarthCARE earth observation satellite. The Remote Interface Unit manages the exchange of commands between the on-board computer and other platform systems. It also collects telemetry information from different parts of the spacecraft.

The unit controls the interface to EarthCARE’s attitude and orbit control, as well as the propulsion systems responsible for changes in the spacecraft’s direction, speed, and precise orientation in orbit. To ensure that the solar arrays are always optimally pointed towards the sun and the satellite stays alive during its mission, the Remote Interface Unit controls EarthCARE’s solar array motors.

“EarthCARE will enhance our understanding of one of today’s most pressing challenges: climate change. After years of dedicated work on the project, our team eagerly awaits the launch of EarthCARE. We are immensely proud of our role in this vital mission”, says Project Manager Janne Kainu.

Over 30 years of experience in space electronics manufacturing

Beyond Gravity's unit in Finland has more than 30 years of experience in delivery of space electronics solutions in ESA projects. “Our role in EarthCARE mission demonstrates our solid position as trusted supplier of mission critical space electronics solutions,” says Kari Hanhikorpi, Managing Director Beyond Gravity Finland, who started this role as of April 1.

About EarthCARE

EarthCARE (Cloud, Aerosol and Radiation Explorer) mission, a joint venture between European Space Agency and Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, will advance our understanding of the role that clouds and aerosols play in reflecting incident solar radiation back into space and trapping infrared radiation emitted from Earth's surface.

EarthCARE target launch time is 29 May 2024 at 01.20 (EEST). Watch: ESA – Watch EarthCARE launch live
