On 24 October 2024, the Government adopted a Decision on the Objectives of Security of Supply. The space sector and space-based services as part of society's critical functions have now been taken into account clearly and decisively in the plan.

By decision (TEM/2024/142), the Government approved the objectives of security of supply. The space sector will be taken into account as a special entity:

Space-based services needed for the functioning of society and for official work are available to security of supply, security and defence actors in all situations, preparations have been made for potential disruptions, and the impacts of disruptions on the functioning of the authorities and society can be minimised. This requires national capabilities, international cooperation and the strengthening and utilisation of our national special characteristics.

Finland develops its national capabilities by strengthening its own national expertise, especially in the processing of satellite signals and the operation of terrestrial infrastructure. International cooperation plays a key role in the development of capabilities in space. Finland is active in achieving the capabilities required by the European Union, the European Space Agency and NATO.

Preparedness and security in society will be improved extensively, for example by developing the national space situation awareness. In addition, value chains and infrastructures related to the utilisation of space services will be identified and the risks threatening their continuity will be prepared for. The availability of capabilities requiring international cooperation will be maintained and verified through cooperation agreements, active participation in the development of satellite systems and operational cooperation.

The objectives, objectives and measures of Finland's space activities will be defined in the National Space Strategy 2030.
