At the meeting of the Nordic Ministers for Economic Affairs on 23 October 2025, a joint declaration on deepening co-operation in the space sector was adopted. The Nordic Space Dialogue will be further strengthened by the launch of regular round tables.

Closer co-operation on space issues increases competitiveness, promotes innovation, supports regional development and improves security in the Nordic Region. The Nordic countries are already cooperating on the development of space infrastructure, in particular through the European Space Agency (ESA) and the EU Space Programme.

The cooperation can be used to promote the utilisation of space services in several sectors, such as maritime transport, the development of smart cities and the security of supply of critical infrastructure. Space-based services can also be utilised in innovation work and in promoting the competitiveness of business and industry.

Establishing a regular dialogue will strengthen the Nordic countries' collective voice in Europe and on the international platforms. The aim is to ensure the quality and availability of space services in the northern regions and to support the promotion of European capacities in the EU and ESA, especially in relation to the Arctic and northern regions.

The Nordic Round Table on Space provides a framework for identifying common interests and opportunities for cooperation. The purpose of the composition, which meets regularly, is to discuss future projects and best practices for the utilisation of space-based services in society. We can also come up with ideas for joint research and innovation activities and promote joint initiatives.
