The "Space for Environment and Green Transition" Hackathon took place back in September. The 7th CASSINI Hackathon looked for EU Space technologies bringing solutions to a sustainable system and the protection of the environment.

Innovators spanning ten locations across Europe showcased their brilliance, engaging in a competition to harness EU Space technologies for solutions that support the transition to a sustainable economic system and the protection of the environment.

Teams focused on three distinct challenges:

- Emissions and carbon footprint reporting
- Sustainable living
- Climate change mitigation

At the end of the hackathon weekend, over 90 projects were submitted. The projects ranged from an idea to use satellite image data for fish disease risk estimation and early detection, to a digital guide that uses artificial intelligence to optimize decision-making for determining the most efficient type of agricultural crops based on atmospheric and geographical conditions.

The winning teams of the 7th CASSINI Hackathon are

1st place: TerraMetallum from the CASSINI Hackathon Czech Republic
Project: Soil pollution prevention by detecting heavy metals in the soil by using satellite data.

2nd place: WasteNoTime from the CASSINI Hackathon Croatia
Project: A model that detects landfills by using satellite imagery and citizens' input.

3rd place: CrOptimize from the CASSINI Hackathon Greece
Project: Optimal crop recommendation and agroclimatic zoning based on satellite and climate data powered by AI.
