Changes in the composition of the Finnish Space Committee
In addition to the change of the Chair of the Committee, a change will be made in the composition of the Committee.
Maija Lönnqvist, Industrial Counsellor in the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment, will start as the Chair of the Space Committee on 1 January 2024. She has previously served as Secretary General of the Committee, knowing its activities. Ilona Lundström, Director General at the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment, will leave the duties of Director General at the end of January 2024 and will no longer be available for the tasks of the Finnish Space Committee.
Petteri Taalas will replace Jussi Kaurola as Director General of the Finnish Meteorological Institute as of 1 January 2024. Kaurola has applied for resignation and the Finnish Meteorological Institute is proposing a new Director General to replace him.
The Space Committee steers the implementation of the national space strategy. The Committee includes representatives from industry, key ministries and research institutes in the field. The Committee has a Secretariat appointed by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment. In addition, there are seven working groups for intersectoral preparation.
The committee develops the sector’s operating environment and promotes the preconditions for space business and research. The committee also participates in the preparation of the European Space Agency’s (ESA) ministerial meetings and the EU’s space-related matters at national level. The Committee also promotes the visibility and communication of the space sector. The current term of the Committee is 6.9.2022-5.9.2025.
